Sherlock Holmes is a movie produced by Guy Ritchie as the Director. As a portrait of life, Sherlock Holmes movie pictures the existence of underground organization in society like Knight Templars, Freemasons, Illuminati, and the others. Their practice is shown in this Sherlock Holmes movie.
The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the symbols of Illuminati in Sherlock Holmes movie and find the meaning of them based on Semiotic study by Roland Barthes and Semiotic of film. The problem statements of this thesis are the meaning of ancient Illuminati symbols and the explanation about the denial of Illuminati’s supernatural power in this movie.
This research is library one in the form of description qualitative. This research is expected to give contributions to the readers and future researchers, especially the research that applied semiotic theory that based on Roland Barthes perspective in specific for those who interested in analyzing about the elements of Illuminati, especially that shown in Sherlock Holmes
