The Materialism In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men
There is only one problem which is going to be discussed in this research, 1) How is materialism reflected in John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men?
The object and the primary data used in this research is John Steinbeck’s Novelette entitled Of Mice and Men (1937). In doing the process of the research, the researcher uses sociology of literature, and Marxist Theory especially Materialism. This research analyzes about certain related elements in identifying the real materialism.The method applied in this research is qualitative approach.
The result of the study shows that there are many reasons as the evidences that the author puts form of materialism in the novelette. Through the characters, their beliefs, their activities and their dialogues, the novelette breaks the features of materialism such as economy and class consciousness. It can be found through the analysis that Materialismis reflected in the novelette.
Finally, the result of this research is expected to give more understanding for the readers about the Materialism reflected in the novelette. The researcher also concludes that the notion of Materialism applied by the author is the response to the fact that the society.
